Interview with the heroine from Killing Time by K. Dawn Byrd:

1.(Mindy McLaurin), tell me the most interesting thing about you.
My grandfather raised me after my parents died in a car accident when I was three. I just found out that I have a twin. My grandfather couldn’t care for both of us and my aunt took in my sister. I wonder what she looks like? Does she like the same things I do? Has she always felt like a jigsaw puzzle with a piece missing?

2. What do you do for fun?
I was riding behind my boyfriend on his Harley. We’ve had some problems lately and I don’t even know if we’re a couple anymore. I’d like to buy my own and learn to ride it.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
I don’t much like to exercise, but I recently joined the gym, mostly to relieve stress. You see, I was charged with embezzlement, but I didn’t do it. I know, I know, that’s what they all say. I didn’t though. Going to jail changes your life forever. Now that I’m out, someone’s been stalking me. They vandalized my apartment and someone’s trying to frame me for murder.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Being alone. After I lost my grandfather and before I knew I had a twin, I felt totally alone in the world. You don’t know what that feels like until you’ve been there.

5. What do you want out of life?
I’d like to find a Christian husband, someone who loves God as much as I do, and settle down and raise a family. I want the kids, the white picket fence, all of it, but he must be a devoted Christian.

6. What is the most important thing to you?
My faith in God is my life.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
Growing up, I loved Nancy Drew. I don’t read a lot right now because I just moved to a new town and started a new job. There’s so much to do! I love to read the Bible though and feel guilty when I don’t.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’ve always felt like I’m a little plain. Grandpa didn’t know anything about cosmetics or how to raise a girl. I’ve learned to put on makeup, but I still don’t feel beautiful. People tell me I am, but it just doesn’t seem real. I guess if I could change something about myself it would be to have better self-esteem.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I have a cat named Sleuth (after my love of Nancy Drew and mysteries.) Once I realized someone was stalking me, I adopted a dog from the pound, hoping it would bark and warn me if someone was outside my apartment. Her name is Zippy and she’s a hairless Chinese Crested.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d go back to Bible days to meet Jesus.
