ANNA’S RETURN by Marta Perry
Berkley Books, June
Book 3 in Pleasant Valley Amish series

Interview with the heroine:

1. Anna Beiler, tell me the most interesting thing about you. I’ve just come home to my Amish family in Pennsylvania after living in the English world for three years. There’s nothing easy about the transition back to being Amish, giving up all the things the outside world takes for granted, but I didn’t have a choice. I had to keep my baby safe, and that’s the only way I could see to do it.

2. What do you do for fun? In the city, my idea of fun was relaxing with a friend and watching old movies. Now that I’m living Amish again, that’s out of the question! But I’m finding I like all the family things that once seemed so boring to me: the meals together, the work frolics where we help each other, the quiet times with people who really understand me.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it? Telling everyone here the truth about myself—that I’m running from something, and that I don’t intend to stay.

4. What are you afraid of most in life? I’m terrified of losing my baby to her birth father, and I’ll do anything to save her. But what if I put other people I love in danger by being here?

5. What do you want out of life? A quiet, stable life for myself and my little girl.

6. What is the most important thing to you? My little Gracie, no question.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read? I don’t have much time for reading these days, except for bedtime stories. When I first started taking college classes part-time while I was out in the world, I discovered I loved to read, and I started reading everything I could get my hands on because I wanted to catch up.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I wish I had the courage to be honest with everyone.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? No pets. When I was in the city, I was too busy to care for one, and now that I’m home, there are all the farm animals around, but they’re not pets. Gracie loves to watch the horses and pat the cows.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? I’d go back to when I was seventeen and avoid some of the mistakes I made. But I can’t really regret them, because they led me to being a mother.
