Hero Interview for Yuletide Protector by Lisa Mondello:

1. Kevin Gordon, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I love to sail. I started sailing with my stepdad when I was a teenager and now I’m restoring an old sailboat so I can sail down the coast.

2. What do you do for fun?
Work on my boat! When I’m not working as a police officer in Providence, I’m down at the marina working on my boat. I love sailing and being out on the ocean.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
I can’t really put off doing it because it’s important to my job, but giving people bad news. Whether an officer has been injured or killed, or someone in the community needs to get bad news, I hate doing it. It’s hard to disconnect what I have to do as a police officer with my gut reaction as a person who knows how hard it is to hear that a loved one has been killed.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?
That I won’t be there to prevent a crime. Sometimes you see the train wreck waiting to happen but yet I feel powerless to stop it. For instance, when Daria Carlisle’s ex-husband tried to hire me to kill her, my first reaction was to get Daria out of town to keep her safe. When she refused to leave, I couldn’t force her. But I couldn’t allow her to be a sitting duck for a man who wanted her dead either.

5. What do you want out of life?
I want happiness and a family. I want to be able to do my job helping people and come home at the end of my shift to a woman who loves me.

6. What is the most important thing to you?
Thing? My sailboat. But that’s just a possession. The people in my life mean the most to me.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
I don’t have a whole lot of time to read between working undercover as a cop and restoring my boat. But if I had the time, it’s be mysteries.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My tunnel vision. I get on a mission and I can’t seem to see the bigger picture sometimes. And I can be stubborn.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No pet. I’m never home. But if I did have a pet it would be a big chocolate lab.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
It would drive you crazy to travel back in time. Fix mistakes that you’ve made. But where do you stop? I think each moment is important even if it involves tragedy because it brings us to where we are today.
