This week I’m hosting Marta Perry with Leah’s Choice and Missy Tippens with A Forever Christmas. If you want to enter the drawing for the book, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Nov. 15th) evening.

Interview with the heroine from Leah’s Choice by Marta Perry:

1. Leah Beiler, tell me the most interesting thing about you. I don’t think there is anything especially interesting about me. I am an Amish schoolteacher, and an old maid besides, and my life is wrapped up in my community, my family, and my scholars.

2. What do you do for fun? Picnics with my students, work frolics with my church community, visiting on the Sundays when we don’t have worship, quilting bees—all the ways in which we entertain ourselves.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it? I’ve been confronted with a challenge to help the children in our Amish community who suffer from genetic diseases. I love the children and want to help them, but doing this will bring me into close contact not only with the Englischer medical people but with Johnny, the fiancé who left me for the outside world ten years ago. And Daniel Glick, our new neighbor, wants me to help his grieving motherless children, and I worry that I’m not prepared for the challenge.

4. What are you afraid of most in life? I’m afraid of letting down all the people who depend on me, especially my eighteen-year-old sister, Anna. She’s become involved with a group of Englischer kids, and I fear that she’s going to disappear into the outside world, just like Johnny did.

5. What do you want out of life? To find my true place in the world, doing the work God has prepared for me to do.

6. What is the most important thing to you? My faith and my family.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read? I love to read when I have time, but most of my reading has to do with the lessons that I prepare for the children I teach. When I have a moment to read just for fun, I love the books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and I encourage my students to read them.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I think perhaps I should be braver. Then maybe I’d have the courage to find out where I belong.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? Ach, we Amish always have animals around us. They are not pets, but I find that I always have to make a trip to the stable in the evening to give the buggy horses a carrot, so I guess that means I love them best.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? The outside world would say that we Amish are already living back in time!
