Kit Wilkinson’s interview

» Posted on Sep 15, 2009 in Blog | 8 comments

This week I’m hosting Kit Wilkinson with Protector’s Honor and Debbie Fuller Thomas with Raising Rain. If you want to enter the drawing for the book, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at
margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Sept. 20th) evening.

Kit Wilkinson’s interview:

1. What made you start writing?

I quit teaching about four years ago and after several months at home with the kids, I realized I had to work. I wanted to be home with them but I also needed to work. So, I decided to write a novel.

2. How long have you been writing? When did you sell your first book?

I’ve been writing for over three years and sold my first book about a year ago.

3. How do you handle rejections?

Rejections are part of the job. I never thought to take them personally. But, let’s face it, it’s always disappointing when someone says no.

4. Why do you write?

I really enjoy writing and it suits me. Being very goal driven, I love each day meeting my page minimum, or revising a certain number of scenes, and then finishing it all by a certain date.

5. What would you be doing with your free time if you weren’t writing?

Shopping ☺

6. What are you working on right now?

I’m revising my second novel with Love Inspired Suspense, SABOTAGE.

7. Do you put yourself into your books/characters?

A little bit, yes. My heroines always like at least one thing that I like. Maybe they take their coffee with milk or they love to cook.

8. Tell us about the book you have out right now.

Protector’s Honor is my first novel. Last year it won the RWA Golden Heart for Best Inspirational Romance and now it’s a book! So, I’m pretty excited about that.

9. Do you have any advice for other writers?

For aspiring authors, my advice is always the same. Write, network, find critique partners, and do your homework before you start sending things out.

10. How important is faith in your books?

Pretty important. I can’t seem to make a story without including it in some way.

11. What themes do you like to write about?

So far, I’ve been writing suspense stories, which touch on the issues of redemptive love, forgiveness, and trust. In the future, I’d like to create a story where Christian characters struggle with other temptations that might not have such clear-cut solutions.

12. What is your favorite book you’ve written and why?

My favorite manuscript is the very first one I wrote. The romance in that story is the strongest I’ve created. But I’ve never submitted it to anyone because it’s full of beginner flaws. Maybe one day I’ll look at it again.

13. What is your writing schedule like?

I really don’t have one and it’s a terrible thing. I’m hoping when the kids are a little older this will change.

  2. Kit is a class act. I was privileged to meet her at RWA Nationals in San Francisco. When she won her Golden Heart, I clapped so hard my palms stung. And when she sold her winning entry two months later, I scared our cats with my happy dancing.

I enjoyed Protector's Honor. Never having read a book in the LIS suspense line, I didn't know quite what to expect. What I got was an action-packed read with a courageous hero I really liked and a strong yet vulnerable heroine I felt for. Kit wrote a page-turner, one that kept me up until two in the morning.

Please don't enter me in the drawing. I'm giving away a copy of the book on my own blog, Joy on the Journey, this week.

  3. Love the love inspired suspense books. Please include me. Thanks.
