Interview with the heroine from Cowboy Christmas by Mary Connealy:
1. Annette Talbot, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I am a singer. I don’t think of myself as gifted, though people say I am. I think of this voice I have as a gift, something I’ve been given. God gave me a voice. I use my voice to be a blessing.
2. What do you do for fun?
I haven’t had any fun for a long time. I ran in the face of danger a year ago and have been running ever since. I’ve worked my way across the country, trying to get home to my father who will protect me.
I know the man and woman I ran from are chasing me. My money is gone. My food. I just need to survive this last leg and then hope my father, who I haven’t heard from in far too long, will help me.
Singing brings me joy and no one can take my voice from me.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it? I’m a coward. I put off being brave. I’ve always been a Christian and I’ve done my best to live for God. But it hasn’t been very hard in a very protected Christian boarding school. Now I’ve found myself challenged to make a stand for my faith, to take risks, to live courageously. I keep failing.
4. What are you afraid of most in life? Claude Leveque has assured me that if I won’t sing for him, he will hurt me. He says there are fates worse than death. And he has already proven that he will hurt those I love. I keep meaning to stand up to him, face anything, be willing to suffer and die for my faith. But the moment comes and suffering is actually very unpleasant. All I can do is run for my life.
5. What do you want out of life?
Until just recently I would have said my life is full and I wanted for nothing. Singing with a mission group, serving God. But now I’ve lost everything and found a man who has rescued me from danger all the while accusing me of being a sneak and a liar. I’d tell him the full truth of what trails behind me except he’ll think terrible things of me. My past it too much like the woman who broke his heart. I don’t want Elijah to hate me. Which means, I suppose, he’s right. I am a sneak and a liar.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My faith. Though I fail to be brave for God, my faith in Him never waivers.
7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I was a good student. I received a good education in my boarding school. Now I don’t own a single book. I ran from the place where Claude attacked me with the clothes on my back and there’s been no time for anything but work and running for the last year.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d be brave. I’d take up the cross God lays before me and carry it faithfully. I keep dropping the cross though. And since I met Elijah Walker, my fumbled crosses always seem to land on his head.
9. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d go back to the time when my mother was alive. My father was always a prickly, difficult man, but he loved my mother and she had a knack for cheering him up. I could never make him happy after Ma died, no matter how good I was.

I like these interviews, margaret but I need to try and catch the comedy of the books better. My poor Annette sounds really forlorn, and she is, she's in huge trouble. But that doesn't stop her and Elijah from dancing around each other in a fast paced, suspenseful, romantic comedy.
