1. What made you start writing?

When the doctor told me I was certifiably insane. I figured writing is for those who talk to themselves, enjoy isolation, talk about killing people and the best way to accomplish the task and, best of all, they go to work in their jammies. Why not join their ranks?

2. How long have you been writing? When did you sell your first book?

A long time. I’m older than Methusaleh, according to my almost-a-teenager, so probably decades. Now don’t tell her this, but it’s only been about 7 years. I’m an original member of ACFW (when it was still ACRW), so I’ve learned almost everything there is to learn about writing from that group.

3. How do you handle rejections?

I kill them off in my next cozy.

4. Why do you write?

See answer to question 1. Join the ranks of the proud!

5. What would you be doing with your free time if you weren’t writing?

You mean, like, something that would make me step into the REAL world? Why I’d actually have to get dressed! *shiver*

6. What are you working on right now?

I thought you’d never ask. I’m plotting another murder. A nice, cozy mystery series I’m calling Brothers Grimm Ferry Tales.

7. Do you put yourself into your books/characters?

Well, no. LaTisha refuses to take the back seat in *her* series (That’s the LaTisha Barnhart Mystery series for all those unfamiliar with my lovely heroine). I am just the humble, pajama clad writer.

8. Tell us about the book you have out right now.

Murder on the Ol’ Bunions is my debut novel. LaTisha Barnhart is the star of this three book series. Book 2, Polly Dent Loses Grip, releases in February of 2009, with book 3 releasing late fall/early winter of 2009.

9. Do you have any advice for other writers?

Got a great sale on pajamas at Macy’s! B2G1. Stock up and keep writing.

10. What themes do you like to write about?

Murder on the Ol’ Bunions has a couple of themes going on, but my favorite is that those married for years and years have been married for years because they’ve worked at blending their lives. I wanted to show two opposing personalities working together, and I hope I’ve done that with LaTisha and Hardy. FYI, LaTisha is posting an article on the subject of marriage on Novel Journey, October 22nd.

11. What is your favorite book you’ve written and why?

My favorite book is an unpublished historical, entitled Shadows of the Past. I love sweeping historicals that draw me in and SOTP was my try at doing this. I haven’t shopped it much. Yet.

12. What is your writing schedule like?

I try to pump out 5K a day when I’m on deadline. I find that the more I can feel my characters the faster I can write. This is also one of the ways I know if a story is going to work or not.

Once published, it’s not all about writing anymore. A tug-of-war begins, because now you have to take the time not only to write but to market your book.
