Interview with the heroine from Treasure at Blue Heron Lake:
1. Emily Gray, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I live on an island. My cottage is on Grand Cat, in a lake in northern Maine. It’s worth the headaches. I put up with generators, temperamental outboard motors, a front yard of water that’s frozen five months of the year, and the occasional dead body I run across.
2. What do you do for fun?
My fiancé, Nate Holman, and I love to water ski on the lake. In winter we go snowshoeing. But even better is investigating puzzling crimes. I was an investigative reporter in a big city. Since moving back to Baxter, Maine, I write up whatever news comes along for the twice-weekly Journal. And lately that news has been pretty exciting.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Definitely housework. But I’ve got to get better at it, as Nate and I are getting married soon. In the winter we’ll live in his parents’ old house beside the marina, and we can’t afford a maid.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Losing the people I love. My dad died when I was ten, and my mom and I had a rough time of it. After a while I got a creepy stepfather. Since I found Nate again and have him back in my life, I’m doing better, but sometimes I worry that something bad will happen to him.
5. What do you want out of life?
To please God and to be a good wife to Nate. I’d like to be a mom, too, if that’s in the divine plan.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My faith. I couldn’t have survived without it.
7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I read all the time. Mysteries, of course. We have shelves full of them at the cottage.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My insecurities. Everyone thinks I have it all together. If only they knew! But Nate knows, and he doesn’t care. That’s why I love him.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No, it would be a pain to have a pet out on the island. Nate keeps talking about getting a dog, though. I can see myself zipping around the lake in my boat with a cocker spaniel in a lifejacket hanging over the side. Maybe we could teach him to water ski.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d like to go back about a hundred years, to the time when Alexander Eberhardt owned the lumber camp that is now Lakeview Lodge. Nate and I think we’ve solved the mystery surrounding Eberhardt’s death, as well as a contemporary murder that happened at the lodge. I’d like to interview the lumberjacks who lived here when Mr. Eberhardt died and his treasure disappeared.
