Interview with the hero, Dr. Thomas Stanton from Lena Nelson Dooley’s story in Snowbound Colorado Christmas:

1. Thomas, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I don’t really think I’m all that interesting. I am a doctor, who has recently returned to Colorado after attending Harvard Medical School.

2. What do you do for fun?

Since I’m trying to establish myself as a part of Dr. Wetherby’s practice, I don’t have a lot of time for fun. However, I do enjoy the holiday parties. Meeting possible patients in a festive atmosphere helps establish a trusting relationship.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Writing letters. I owe one right now to Dr. Denison, the man I interned under in Massachusetts.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

I’m dreading the time when I will have to lose a patient of my own to death. I wish I could help cure them all.

5. What do you want out of life?

Because of the kindness of an older friend, I was able to fulfill my greatest desire. He paid my way through medical school. Now I’m doing what I believe God created me to do.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Being sure I’m in the center of God’s will for me. Sometimes I stray out on my own, and it never works.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Books have long been old friends of mine. Of course, I read the Bible almost every day, but I also like to read rousing adventures. They take my mind off any worries I might have—at least for a while.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I don’t pay enough attention to the needs of those close to me. I’m trying to change that.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Because of all the time my medical training took, I haven’t had a pet for years. However, a doctor needs dependable transportation to get to his patients. I hold the horse that pulls my buggy in high esteem and treat him almost like a pet. Even though the automobile is making inroads into transportation, I find them undependable. Give me a good horse and buggy anytime.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I enjoy living in 1913. I do regret not coming back to visit my father before he went home to be with the Lord. If I could travel back in time, it would only be until right before he became ill. I’d like one more chance to spend time with him.
