Interview with the hero from Legend of the Book Keeper by Daniel Blackaby:

1.     Cody Clemenson, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

A month ago I would have answered “absolutely nothing!” But of course, that was before I stumbled upon the Book in Wesley’s Amazing Used and Rare Book Store, the night of the storekeeper’s brutal murder. Now, I’m the guardian of a magical Book which gives me the power to create whatever I want out of thin air!

2.     What do you do for fun?

Unfortunately, being the centerpiece in a war between two ancient cities and fleeing from the giant creature trying to devour me hasn’t left much time for fun activities. Although, (most of the time) I enjoy my ‘creation lessons’ with the completely crazy, tactless hermit Lamgorious Stalkton.

3.     What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Processing the unusual feelings I’ve been experiencing lately around my best friend Jade. I mean, we’ve been inseparable since third grade! I don’t know what’s gotten into me; I keep making a total fool of myself. She’s just my best friend; anything else would ruin the perfect thing we have going, wouldn’t it?

4.     What are you afraid of most in life?

The Hunter; that horrifying beast gives me nightmares, with its glowing red eyes and unquenchable hunger. Ever since I foolishly read from the Book it’s been chasing me relentlessly. I never thought the day would come when something terrified me more than girls!

5.     What do you want out of life?

Rise above my past. After my dad walked out on my mom and me, I’ve always felt I was somehow inadequate. I want to prove that I am worth something. Of course, boundless fame would be nice too!

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

My friendship with my Jade (although don’t tell her that!). From the day we met, she’s been my lifeline, helping me break out of my shell of insecurity and shyness… and most importantly, she does all of my algebra homework.

7.  Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I’m an avid reader of fantasy and adventure. Although, my favorite type of book is the kind that grants you the infinite power of the universe, such as the book I have recently become the Book Keeper of. Unfortunately, that type seems to be in scarce supply.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

How dismally ordinary I am! Does that count? I would also give myself a crooked nose or a prominent gash across my face or something; all the best heroes always have tough looking battle scars.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I am currently pet-less; although I suppose I should soon get a noble white stallion. They seem to be the “in” thing with the heroes and the chosen-one types these days.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I would travel back just one short month ago, and this time I would NOT read from Wesley’s book! That way I wouldn’t have an entire kingdom trusting in me as the last hope to defeat the powerful Golden King. Not only am I destined to fail, but I’m going to let everyone down in the process. Maybe things were better back when I was just an ordinary teen…
