Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! I can’t believe it is the holidays again. This year has flown by. My four granddaughters are growing up so fast. The oldest is now ten and the youngest twenty months. She just recently moved out of her baby bed into a big girl bed. And my three year old has informed me she isn’t scared of Santa anymore.

It is just starting to get cold here in Oklahoma. I love a chill to the air, Thanksgiving food and seeing friends and family. I am one of those people who love to listen to Christmas music. I’ll tell you a secret. Sometimes I do during the year. I hope each of you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year. May 2011 be a great year for you.

This year has been a good one for me. I sold my 75th book in September. I am now writing for Summerside Press (a historical romance), Abingdon Press (a romantic suspense series) and Love Inspired/Love Inspired Suspense. My historical romance from Summerside will be coming out next September and will be part of the American Tapestry line. I will also have three Love Inspired Suspense books out in 2011—April, June and September—and one Love Inspired out in December of next year.

For the holidays I have two books coming out. I have A Daughter for Christmas, a Love Inspired, out this November. The blurb reads: Dr. Max Connors had no idea he’d fathered a child thirteen years ago. Or that his baby girl had been given up for adoption. He locates his daughter in a small Oklahoma town and moves there, hoping to become a part of her life. But when he meets her widowed mother, Max is unsure how to reveal his identity. As he helps Rachel Howard with her plans to homeschool the girl, he’s welcomed into the family. But with the holidays approaching, Max must tell Rachel who he really is. Can he make his dreams of family come true by Christmas?

Christmas Bodyguard

My December book is a Love Inspired Suspense called Christmas Bodyguard, the first book in my Guardians, Inc. Series. The blurb is: Someone’s after wealthy Texan Slade Caulder’s daughter. Desperate to keep her safe while he determines the motive, the widowed father hires a bodyguard for Abbey. A female bodyguard, with the training to protect the girl–and an understanding of a willful teenager who keeps trying to outsmart her. Elizabeth Walker is the perfect combination of caring and toughness for her job. But as the holidays approach, the stalker’s threats escalate. And Slade finds himself willing to risk everything to keep his Christmas bodyguard by his side…forever.

Recipe:

For the holidays my recipe is Carrot Cheesecake Bars from http://www.kraftrecipes.com. These bars are delicious and easy for entertaining or taking to a party.

Ingredients: ½ stick of butter, melted; 1½ cups Honey Maid Graham Cracker Crumbs; 1 cup sugar; 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon; 3-8 oz packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened; 1 teaspoon vanilla; ¾ cup sour cream; 3 eggs; ¾ cup finely shredded carrots (about 2); and 1½ cups thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping.

Directions: Heat the oven to 325 degrees. Mix butter, crumbs, ¼ cup sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Then press onto bottom of 13×9-inch pan. Bake ten minutes. Beat cream cheese, vanilla and the remaining sugar and cinnamon in large bowl with mixer until blended. Add sour cream and mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each until blended. Stir in carrots and spread over crust. Bake 45-50 minutes or until the center is almost set. Cool completely. Refrigerate four hours. Serve topped with Cool Whip.

Writing Tip:

Before you start writing, you need to know your main characters well. However you do it (through an interview, journal writing, a character chart), you need to know their background. What made them the person they are at the start of the book. Our past influence who we are today.
